Social Reformer, Rent Strike Leader, Women's Peace Crusader and Pioneering Woman Councillor.

"In Govan, Mrs Barbour, a typical working class housewife, became the leader of a movement such had never been seen before. Street meetingd, back court meetings, drums, bells, trumpets - every method was used to bring the women out."
(William Gallacher, Revolt on the Clyde, 1936)

A famous image of the rent strik shows Mrs Barbour's Army and supporters demonstrating oustide 10 Hutton Drive, Linthouse.

Plaque to Dr Elizabeth Ross

Inscription: 

To the Glory of God and in undying memory of Dr. Elizabeth Ness MacBean Ross, who voluntarily gave her life during the European war to help the typhus stricken Serbian soldiers and died in the Military Hospital, Kragujevatz, Serbia 14th February 1915. This tablet has been erected and hospital beds endowed in Serbia by public subscription in remembrance of the noble life and sacrifice of one whose home was for many years in Tain. Greater love hath no man than this.

Plaque to Mary (Molly) Isolen Fergusson

Inscription: 

1914-1997 - A trailblazing engineer,
Mary (Molly) Isolen Fergusson
was the first woman to be elected Fellow of the
Institution of Civil Engineers in 1957.
After studying engineering at the University of Edinburgh and
Heriot-Watt College she forged a career with Edinburgh civil engineers
Blyth-Blyth. Through her exceptional ability and commitment
she rose to the rolw of Senior Partner.
A member of the Women's Engineering Society,
Mary Fergusson was an inspiration to the generations of young women.
Her lifetime of achievement earned her an OBE in 1979
and the honorary degree of Doctor of Science at
Heriot-Watt University in 1985.
