Annie Lennox was born on Christmas Day 1954 in Aberdeen, the daughter of Dorothy Ferguson and Thomas Allison Lennox.
She attended the Aberdeen High School for Girls from 1959-1972. She won a place at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied the flute, piano and harpsichord. (She was made an honorary Fellow in 2006, and is also an honorary Fellow of the RSAMD.)
She was the flautist in a group called the Dragon's Playground, before singing with the Tourists and then the Eurythmics. The Eurythmics released many hit singles. Her solo career began in 1990.
