The daughter of Victor Francois Nardin, Marie Claudine Nardin was born in Burgundy, France, but immigrated to England in 1853 and became a naturalised British subject. She worked as a governess in St George's Mount, New Brighton, Cheshire, prior to her marriage. She married James Reid twice, firstly in Wallasey, Cheshire, on 26 Dec 1858 and then again at 24 Dee Street Aberdeen on 14 Jan 1859. James Reid was a schoolmaster at Leochel Cushnie. The couple had four children, three daughters and a son. After her marriage she worked as a sewing teacher. She died on 7 Jan 1897.
