Anne Home-Drummond was born at Edinburgh in 1814.

On 29 October 1839 she married George Murray, 2nd Baron Glenlyon, at Blair Drummond, thereby becoming Lady Glenlyon. In 1846 he succeeded his uncle as sixth Duke of Atholl, and Anne became Duchess of Atholl. The couple had one child, John, who became 7th Duke of Atholl.

She served Queen Victoria as Mistress of the Robes and then as a Lady of the Bedchamber. The Duke of Atholl died in 1864, and Anne became the Dowager Duchess of Atholl.

She established a Girls' Industrial School in the building still known as "The Duchess Anne" in Dunkeld.

Anne Murray died at Dunkeld, Perthshire, in May 1897, aged 82. She was buried at Blair Atholl.
