Maggie (or Muggie) Machlin was a domestic servant in the manse at Boyndie. She became pregnant by a local dignitary. In despair, one night she went down to the coast and sat on a rock, looking out to sea. She died of exposure. The spot where she died became known as Maggie (or Muggie) Machlin.
