Lila Clunas

Although known as Lila, her first name was Maggie.

Born in Glasgow, Lila Clunas trained as a teacher at Moray House and then taught in Dundee, at Brown Street School.
She was a member of the Independent Labour Party and became involved with the suffrage movement in 1906, joining the Women's Freedom League in 1907.
In 1909 she was a member of a nine woman delegation to Prime Minister Asquith. She was arrested and sentenced to three weeks in prison. She went on hunger strike and was released early.
in 1943 she became a Labour Party Councillor on Dundee Town Council. She served until 1964. She died in 1968, aged 92.
