Lady May Baird

Matilda Deans Baird; Maiden name - Tennent.
Born 1901, died 1983.

Born in Lanarkshire, and educated at Glasgow High School for Girls, May Tennent graduated in medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1925. She married Dugald Baird in 1928. The couple moved to Aberdeen in 1937. She held a number of positions in public life, including Chair of the North Eastern Hospital Board from 1947-1966, and governor of the BBC in Scotland 1966-1970. She was awarded the CBE in 1962.

She was a champion of Health Service improvement and, together with her husband Sir Dugald Baird, was honoured as a Free Burgess of Aberdeen.
