Jean Lorimer MacLaren was born in Brentford, Middlesex, in 1888, the eldest daughter of John MacLaren and Jean Colquhon, both of whom came from Perthshire.

She was living in Edinburgh with her parents in 1891.

In 1901 the family were living in Dull, Aberfeldy.

Both of her brothers, Ian and Malcolm, were killed in the First World War.

She was an elder at Fortingall Church.

She died at Aberfeldy on 23 May 1973.
