Elizabeth Fraser Macdonald

The youngest of seven children of Donald Macdonald and Catherine Macdonald, nee Fraser, she was born in Laggan in 1890. Her birth certificate gives her name as "Elizabeth Macdonald" with no middle initial "F", but she used her mother's maiden name "Fraser" as a middle name. Elizabeth grew up speaking both Gaelic and English.

The family lived at Auchmore Cottage, Laggan. Her father was a farm servant.

In 1901 she was living with her parents and five older siblings in Station Road, Kingussie. Her father was working as a coal porter.

Elizabeth Macdonald trained as a nurse. In 1914 Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow was requisitioned by the Royal Army Medical Corps, and became a military hospital. Elizabeth Macdonald nursed wounded and sick servicemen there, as part of the Territorial Force. She died of pneumonia at Stobhill on 10 October 1918 and is buried in Kingussie.
