Ann was born in Edinburgh. She married James (Jim) Proudfoot in 1956 and they moved to Musselburgh where they brought up three sons.

Ann was Chairman of the Hollies Day Centre Management Committee and worked to fundraise and improve facilities, taking the centre from a soup kitchen to a centre for the over sixties, providing respite, a lunch club, classes and activities. Funds contributed to refurbishment of the centre and the purchase of a minibus.

Ann also worked with the local Twinning Association and the Community Council and was a Justice of the Peace.

She was a member of the Riding of the Marches Musselburgh.

In 2009 she was awarded the title Citizen of the Year by Musselburgh and Inveresk Community Council for her voluntary work.

Ann died suddenly only a day after becoming ill.
