The daughter of Alexander H Taylor, shipmaster, and Jane Fettes Hector, she was born in Aberdeen. She was educated at Aberdeen High School for Girls and gained the LLA. She studied music in Dresden.
In 1916 she volunteered for war work as a clerk, and became head of the Women's Records Section in the War Office in London. She regularly worked 12 hour days. She was awarded the M.B.E. for her war work in 1921.
She died in London.
