St Abb
Abb was an Anglo-Saxon princess, the daughter of King Aethelfrith of Bernicia and his wife Acha of Deira. She founded a monastry and nunnery. After her death various miracles were ascribed to her and she was canonised. Her feast day is 25 August.
Princess Louise, 9th Duchess of Argyll
Louisa Caroline Alberta, The Princess Louise, was born on 18th March 1848 at Buckingham Palace, the sixth child of Queen Victoria and Albert, Prince Consort.
Louise had eight brothers and sisters: Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise (1840 - 1901), Edward Albert (1841 - 1910), Edward who became Edward VII (9 November 1841 - 6th May 1910), Alice Maud Mary (1843 - 1878), Alfred Ernest Albert (1844 - 1900), Helena Augusta Victoria (1846 - 1923), Arthur William Patrick Albert (1850 - 1942), Leopold George Duncan Albert (1853 - 1884), Beatrice Mary Victoria Feodore (1856 - 1944).
Louise, the Princess Royal
The third child and eldest daughter of the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, Princess Louise was born in 1867. She married Alexander Duff, Earl of Fife in 1889. After her marriage Princess Louise lived at Mar Lodge, Braemar and Duff House, Banff. She became a skilled salmon fisher.
She became the Princess Royal in 1905. She was widowed in 1912, and died in 1931.
Princess Beatrice
Princess Beatrice was the youngest child of Queen Victoria, and her mother's life-long companion. She married Prince Henry of Battenburg in 1885. They had four children. Princess Beatrice was widowed in 1895. She acted as her mother's secretary until Victoria's death in 1901, and thereafter edited her mother's journals. She died in 1944.
