Jeannie Barclay Smith

Daughter of John and Margaret Macpherson Smith, of Aberlour, Banffshire. In 1901 she was working as a hospital nurse at Lauriston Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. She died in France and Flanders. She is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery.

Anne Alexander

Mrs Anne Alexander was matron of Newton Stewart Hospital from 1976 - 1988. She was one of the founder members of ‘The League of Friends of Newton Stewart Hospital and Community’. She was awarded the MBE for services to nursing in 1987.

Kathleen Sinclair Stewart

She was born in 1880, in Alvie, Inverness shire, the daughter of Donald and Flora Stewart. Her family later moved to Dumfriesshire, and then to Blair Atholl. In 1911, she was a hospital sister at Charing Cross Hospital.

Kathleen Sinclair Stewart served as Matron of the Welsh Hospital, Netley. She died of pneumonia on 18 October 1918.
