Henrietta Dundas Dalrymple-Hamilton

Duchesse de Coigny

The only daughter and heiress of Sir Hew Dalrymple-Hamilton of Bargany and the Hon Jane Duncan, she was born in 1801.

She married Augustin Louis Joseph de Franquetot, Duc de Coigny, in 1822. They had two daughters, Louisa and Georgiana.

She was widowed in 1865 and died in 1869.

Anne Hamilton

Anne Hamilton was the daughter of Lady Mary Fielding and James Hamilton 3rd Marquis of Hamilton and later, 1st Duke of Hamilton.
Her mother died in childbirth leaving 5 delicate children. In hope of improving their health, Anne's father moved the family to Chelsea where the air was better. However, only Anne and her younger sister, Susanna survived.

Nina Mary Benita Douglas-Hamilton

Nina Mary Benita Poore was the daughter of Major Robert Poore and Juliana Benita Lowry-Corry. She married Alfred Douglas Douglas-Hamilton, 13th Duke of Hamilton, in 1901. They had four sons and three daughters.

In 1903 she co-founded the Animal Defence and Anti-Vivisection Society. In 1912 she founded the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Vivisection. She founded the Fearne Animal Sanctuary in Dorset at the start of the Second World War.

Elizabeth Brodie

Brought up between her family home in Scotland and boarding school in London, Elizabeth Brodie met George, Marquis of Huntly while visiting Bath. The couple married in Bath on 11 Dec 1813. After death of the 4th Duke of Gordon in 1827, the couple became Duke and Duchess of Gordon. After the death of her husband in 1836, Elizabeth moved to Huntly Lodge. Deeply interested in religion, in 1845 she became a member of the Free Church of Scotland. She was a considerable benefactor, contributing to many causes.

Frances Harriett, Duchess of Richmond

Her maiden name was Greville.

8 March 1824- 8 March 1887

Frances Harriett Greville married Charles Gordon-Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond and Gordon, in 1843. The couple had four sons and two daughters.

According to her obituary she was "especially beloved for her kind-hearted interest in the poorer classes and her ever-present desire to promote and engage in good works for their benefit."
